Thematic Issues

In order to open the forum for a meaningful discussion about the development and the status of qualitative methods in the individual disciplines, FQS issues introduce the traditional stances, current research methodologies, empirical emphases and disciplinary perspectives. Already published are issues with an emphasis on Cultural Sciences, Psychology, Criminology, and Sport Sciences. A second emphasis regards topics which are discussed by researchers regardless of their disciplinary and national backgrounds.

Every thematic issue also contains, along with the contributions which directly have to do with the respective thematic emphasis, selected individual contributions from different fields of qualitative research. For single contributions see the publication guidelines; if you have any suggestion for future issues, please let us know via e-mail.

Additionally, the following FQS features exist:

  • FQS Debates on the "Quality of Qualitative Research" (since 2000), about "Doing Successful Research in the Social Sciences—Ethnography of the Career Politics of an Occupational Group" (since 2002), on "Qualitative Research and Ethics" (since 2004), and on "Teaching and Learning Qualitative Research Methods in the Social Sciences" (since 2006);

  • FQS Reviews is dedicated to reviewing media units;

  • FQS Conferences informs about conferences (conference reports, conference announcements, etc.);

  • FQS Interviews provides interviews with qualitative researchers.
