In this interview with Günter MEY, conducted by Katrin REIMER-GORDINSKAYA, the initial reception and development of grounded theory methodology (GTM) is described. In addition, the essential elements of this central qualitative research strategy in relation to other qualitative approaches are elucidated. From the conversation, the diversity of GTM as well as challenges arising from any data-driven qualitative theory development—including critical psychology—are becoming clear.
