Abstract

The book provides an analysis of the news-industry from a rather fresh point of view. Well-established models like the gate-keeper or agenda-setting-model are criticized as insufficient to deal, for example, with the phenomenon of unexpected incidents. By the means of chaos-theory the author examines the production of news and the organization of editorial staffs. He opens the door for a rethinking of the journalist's and editor's work. However, there is no empirical support and no in-depth-analysis of a chaos-conceptual news-theory. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0204323

Martin WELKER, 1993-1996 Redakteur bei RadioRopa Info, 1996-2000 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Lehreinheit für Medien- und Kommunikationswissenschaft der Universität Mannheim; Promotion mit einer Arbeit über die "Determinanten der Internet-Nutzung" (Verlag Reinhard Fischer); seit 2000 bei der MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbH, derzeit als Leiter des Bereichs Informationszentrum/Internationale Projekte.
