Abstract

Using case studies from the continuing work of the Centre for Social Anthropology and Computing at the University of Kent at Canterbury we discuss ways in which the anthropological research process is enhanced or altered through the creation of online archives of fieldnotes and other research material such as photographs, film and the results of their analysis. Dissemination of field data in this manner both enhances academic debate by enabling alternative analysis and provides rich resources for teaching as demonstrated by the experience rich anthropology project. David Zeitlyn, University of Kent

David ZEITLYN is currently a Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, University of Kent, Canterbury. His other main responsibilities include membership of the national JIBS users group, Honory Editor of Royal Anthropological Institute (http://lucy.ukc.ac.uk/rai/). His research interests focus on the ethnography of the Cameroon Nigeria border region especially Mambila and their neighbours; Divination (http://lucy.ukc.ac.uk/ERA/Divination/divination.html) and the use of technology to provide answers to hard questions; anthropological linguistics especially ethnopragmatics and the use of rhetoric in politics; and the anthropological study of the uses of technology such as readers using bibliographic databases (http://lucy.ukc.ac.uk/Blerbs/).
