Semi-structured interviews using interview schedules are quite common today in qualitative research. They are usually done in the form of face-to-face interviews. However, for some research questions, or under specific circumstances, telephone interviews could be a viable alternative. In this article we explore the viability of face-to-face vs. telephone interviews vis-a-vis quantitative and qualitative research findings. The qualitative material presented in this article comes from a study of the private and professional lives of researchers in childless relationships.
