Abstract

In "Constructing Grounded Theory", Kathy CHARMAZ guides the reader through the research process. Starting with a look back at the history of grounded theory, she explains how to gather rich data, code it, write memos, and compose the first draft. Through various examples from her own research CHARMAZ provides the reader not only with a theoretical description of how to construct a grounded theory but also with a way of seeing how new questions emerge from the data and new theory is built from it. She highlights central concepts, definitions, and useful questions, and offers the reader flexible guidelines to design and conduct a research project. Because of this, the book will be very useful for novices as well as for experts and (PhD-) students in the late stages of their theses; it is a must-have for everyone who works with/on (constructivist) grounded theory. Paula Krüger, Universität Bremen

Paula KRÜGER und Imke K. MEYER promovieren beide im Doktorandenkolleg "Prozessualität in transkulturellen Kontexten: Dynamik und Resistenz" an der Universität Bremen (http://www.wsp-kultur.uni-bremen.de/). Beide arbeiten mit einer Kombination qualitativer und quantitativer Erhebungsinstrumente und haben gemeinsam den Herausgeberband "Transcultural Studies. Interdisziplinarität trifft Transkulturalität" (2005) veröffentlicht. Paula KRÜGER arbeitet derzeit an einem konstruktivistischen Spracherwerbsmodell in Bezug auf erwachsene Lerner(inne)n. Die zugrunde liegende empirische Studie hat sie an der University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB, Kanada) durchgeführt. Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen – neben der Fremdsprachenerwerbsforschung – im Bereich der Kanada-Studien, der Neuropsychologie sowie (qualitativer und quantitativer) Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung.

Imke K. Meyer, Universität Bremen

Imke K. MEYER arbeitet in der Sportwissenschaft ebenfalls an ihrem Promotionsprojekt und beschäftigt sich darin mit dem kulturellen Einfluss auf Bewegung. Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Bewegungswissenschaft, Sportsoziologie, Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung und Kulturanthropologie. Ihr Forschungsprojekt umfasst u.a. Untersuchungen an der Nippon Sport Science University (Tokio, Japan).
