The papers of this volume cover a variety of approaches to quantitative and qualitative research in teaching and learning. The focus of the book lies on cognitive learning processes and cognitive development. The articles address different research areas, such as the development of cognitive processes over time, analogy-based cognitive processes, self-concept and interest. These aspects are investigated in relation to instructional processes. Video analysis plays a central role in the papers of this book. Depending on the research question and the area of interest, different methods for analysing video data are developed, ranging from rather inductive to more theory-based procedures and from hermeneutic interpretation of the data to strictly category-guided methods.
