Abstract

In this study the rites of passage of young women are discussed. Each passage has its own pattern and requires specific resources. At the same time, the shape of each is individualized, i.e. they are related to individual choice and coping. What they have in common is the characteristic of gender structuration whereby young women are confronted with the phenomenon of a "double life management" and have to reconcile work and family. In this respect the study contributes to research on biographies and the life course as well as women's studies. As a longitudinal study it deals with finding work, partnerships and family. The data collection dates cover more than a decade, which means that the biographical developments and learning are very well focused. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0803200
